We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Oh NO!

Lately I encountered quite a few setbacks in tatting. While tatting the 'Rainbow Heart', the thread suddenly tore off. I was shocked it happened. And the same thing occurred in the second heart I tatted from scratch. Sigh... Did I tug at the thread too hard?

No, I didn't give up. I managed to tat up 2 Rainbow Hearts. The pattern is from the 'Rainbow Heart Bookmark' designed by Betsy Evans. I used Coron #12.

I bought a new book Sheep May Safely Graze by Karey Solomon. I wanted to tat a sheep but ended up tatting more (incomplete ones). There wasn't enough thread to complete the 1st sheep (the one on right in the picture) so I didn't get to finish the bottom and the hind leg. Bad estimation. The tail colour was wrong too.

The second sheep (the one on the left in the picture) had enough thread. I only had to sew in the ends. Before I knew it, I broke another part of a thread in the front leg and ... SAD.

I did tat a pretty sheep at last. Oops, I forgot to take a picture of it before I sent it off to a friend. Why an orange sheep? WELL, the sheep fell into my orange juice.

For those of you who are interested to find out about the inspirations behind my clay whistles, here goes: (from the top)
  • my nail art
  • Bella Sinclair's cute characters
  • a textured box
  • the Ent from Lord of the Rings
  • a sci-fi button.

Ta-ta.

  1. I commend you for trying new tatting patterns. I have a problem with a lot of them because I needle tatt. So, I mainly do the same thing all the time and come up with new ways to use my tatting. That's why you see so mamy different things I have added my tatting to. I guess I'm a little lazy, too. Linda

  2. I like how the sheep look, I have heard of this book and always wondered what the sheep looked like. Even in orange colors they look good.

Very interesting to learn the inspiration for your clay whistles. I totally see the resemblance to the inspiration. Have a great weekend!

  3. I've had that happen before; where the thread breaks as you're tatting! So frustrating! Well, good for you for perservering. Hope we get to see the finished products sometime. :)

  4. Thanks, Linda. I do love to try new things. :)

Hey Carol, glad you like the sheep. I love it too. I'm definitely going to tat more of them some time. Yes, I tend to draw inspirations from things around me. I'm rather happy with the whistles.

Hi TattingChic, will post pictures when I have my next FOs. :p

    Have a great weekend, all.

  5. Hahaha! Oh, I love these. Poor little sheep. Well, even maimed, they are still adorable. I love their orange color! I guess the one that actually got completed was a very special one, indeed.

And your inspiration list! Hahaha, Val, you are such a doll. :D Thank you.

  6. Hi Valerie

It was good to see you the other day.

If it makes you feel any better I personally think that Coron perle tends to fray and break easily (at least it did when I first started tatting).

    GJ on the sheep though!

  7. Hey Bella, yes, indeed the completed sheep was special, for a very special friend. And I'm glad she loves it too. ;p
BTW, did I drop enough hints about how I really LOVE your drawings?

Aileen, thanks for your kind words. Glad to know I wasn't the cause of the broken threads. (hehehe)

  8. When I see tatting, it amazes me. I don't think I'd have the patience. I used to buy little tatted ornaments from a sweet older woman at a craft show. She, like her tatting, was tiny and dainty..
