We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Upgraded Comfort

Remember Frosty? Well, I wanted this bear to sit on my dad's car dashboard but it was quite a wobbly ride. Not a very good idea lest he gets thrown out of the window!

So, I decided to make him a comfortable seat and added valcro to the bottom so the bear can sit securely (fitted on the dashboard)!

And to give you an idea of its size, here's Frosty posing with my 9" Sleepy Head.

There you go! Ready for rides with my daddy, Frosty?

Girl Panda

You might remember my panda, Pod, in this post. I've made a new panda. This time it's a girl! She's a special request by a dear friend. I'd altered her body profile from the last one I made, and I experimented with sculpting her face.

Her name's Shasha (莎莎). She's now gone to live in Beijing, China, with her new mummy.
Shasha
DOB: 24 December 2010

Shasha wears a little flower.

Pod and Shasha love to exchange jokes.

It's time to say goodbye. Pod gives Shasha a peck on the cheek. Pod's sweet.

 I'm going miss Shasha.

I Love Pretty Things (3)

Was in town last night... Orchard Road, downtown Singapore, the famous shopping belt. Think these images will send some festive cheers to blogging friends who are starting to experience the cold spells. Hope you like the images.

Christmas trees lined with teddies! Oooh...

Now, back to my tatting. These 2 tatted bracelets were done some time back. They are only rings and chains with some Swaroski crystals added.

Cheers!

I Love Pretty Things (1)

If you are wondering what have been keeping me busy...

These cute little bears are derived from natural soap.
I made the one on the far left, Camomile flavoured, at a soap-making workshop.
Watch this space for more, soon.

Have a great weekend. XOXO

My Babies... Eh, Bears Actually

I haven't posted for over two months. :p There was too much happening. I managed, however, to keep my hands busy with making bears. Some tatting too but that will be in another post (when I get more stuff sorted out). Some eye candy if you will, for now.

Tatting and Goodies

After Mr Crocodile went for his swimming lessons, it became quiet in the house. Ahh finally, time to tat. I thought I should revisit tatting a sheep. I tatted this sheep some time back here. Wow, it was almost a year ago. The pattern is from Sheep May Safely Graze by Karey Solomon. This was tatted in #20 Opera Ecru.

This pair of earrings was tatted a couple of weeks back, right after I tatted the pendant in the same pattern. Interestingly I found a spool of red metallic thread that I don't remember anything about. And voila!

Recently I got lucky and won in 2 giveaways. The first was actually an El Dorado doily giveaway by Two Shuttles. I didn't win the doily but I was the winner of the mystery tat. LOL. Isn't this peekaboo ornament cute? It's done in Lisbeth thread 'Jewel'. There is a metallic-thread butterfly hanging in the middle.

Last week, Bumpkin Bears had a giveaway too and I won a pack of her 'Friends for Tea' cards. I've been 'stalking' bear artists' blogs and this is one of them. Catherine is very talented. Apart from making teddy bears, she draws cute bears too.

It's the weekend again! YAY! I'm going to watch a play on Saturday afternoon with an ex colleague and her daughter. Another ex colleague's playing a role in it. I'm looking forward.

Heehee, have you noticed... my blog now has a 3-column layout instead of 2? Of course, I had some tips from Gina (aka the Tatting Goddess) who pointed me to the Three Column Blogger. Thanks, Gina.

Meanwhile, do check out the giveaways I've listed on my left sidebar.

XOXO

Sleepy Bro

Hi there! Hope you are looking forward to the weekend as I do.

This is the other sleepy bear, the brother of Sleepy Head. He's made in mohair that's rather stringy and sparce, but I was surprised at how soft the fur feels. This gives him the straggly look. I haven't given him a name because it's a teddy for my friend.

The story goes that I enjoy making bears but I really can't sew much. So my teddy bears do not have clothes! My friend who's very good with her hands offered to do an "exchange". She'd make some clothes for a teddy that I choose and I'll make her a bear!

The other part of the exchange? Well, they are not ready yet. Will post the designer clothes when they arrive.

XOXO

OMG! Look at Posy! She's the cute giveaway at Bearbits, by Ginger, to celebrate 25 years of bear-making and 2nd Silver Blog Anniversary! I won't want to miss the fun celebration.

Oliver the Mini Teddy

Hi hi. This is Oliver. He's my 1st mini teddy bear made from mohair.

I had the impression that it'll take a shorter time to make a mini teddy bear. I was wrong. Although it didn't take me as long to sew up the parts, but because he's so tiny, I had a quite a tough time. Now I know.

Oliver's bio:

Born: 10 Apr 09

Height: 2½"

Character: friendly, playful and loves to eat

I wish to thank my teddy bear teacher, Alicia. She sent me a whole bunch of teddy bear fur and now I can make tons of mini bears. Look!

Introducing... Ted

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm pleased to introduce... TED.

Ted's the one I've been busy with the entire week. I'm not joking. I kept retouching the different parts as I went along... He's my very first felted bear and I'm pretty proud of myself, having accomplished this. During the course of felting this mini bear, I jabbed my poor thumb and fingers many times. I had a tissue beside me, on stand by, to wipe off the blood each time this happens. Guess it's part and parcel for a first-timer in felting.

The project was very challenging: to make the limbs the same size and have an overall acceptable proportion vis-a-vis the head, body and limbs. However, I decided to give Ted big feet. I think it's cute.

Ted's bio:

Born: 4 Apr 09
Height: 2½" tall
Character: curious, sympathetic and friendly
Ted has a tatted collar in Flora light Grey #20.

Here's Penelope and Ted.

(Thanks, TattingChic, for naming Penelope).

Did I mention that I bought a book online 2 weekends ago: 'Needlefelting Magic' by Barbara Allen? And I happened to be the 1001th customer to purchase the book! And... the suppliers decided to give it away FOC (free of charge) to me! Plus, it was autographed by the author. I was so lucky. Here's a glimpse of the book...

Just in case you are wondering, the book describes the steps to felt a mini bear. There are some advance felting tips too.

Hope your weekend's fantastic and restful.

Ready to party!

I'm finally done dressing up all my teddy bears. Here's a pat on my back. Pretty happy and they are ready to party!

(Oops! This bear hasn't got a name yet. Suggestions anyone?)

A little about this bear: she's happy, loves to smile and enjoys ice cream. Does that give you some idea?

Good weekend!

Some projects... for a start

Making teddy bears is fun, especially anticipating the final look. My teacher, Alicia, was really patient with me. I'm really rather hopeless at sewing but all's well that ends well... So I now have Xiaoxiong (Small Bear -- the golden one), the purple bear (my sister has adopted it), Walter (the 'guy' with the huge smile) and Baby (the smallest and now adopted by a friend from Taiwan). I'm almost done with a fifth... It needs a bit more work but that'll probably happen after Christmas. I'll be away for a little getaway and will be home for Christmas.

Happy holidays, everyone.
