We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Stegosaurus Fun!

The latest F U N items I tatted are a "trisome" of Stegosaurus! I was looking for something interesting to tat, and found Martha Ess' books on block tatting. That same day, I caught a glimpse of Umintsuru's post. She tatted one of these! What a nice coincidence?!

This is what I found out about the Stegosaurus (source Wikipedia):
Stegosaurus means roofed lizard or covered lizard. These giants lived during the Late Jurassic period (some 500 to 150 million years ago), in western North America, but also in Europe, where remains were later discovered too. They are one of the most easily recognisable due to their distinctive back plates and tail spikes.
Interestingly, although heavily built, standing up to 4 metres tall and 9 metres in length (the size of a bus!), a Stegosaurus eats plants (yes, it's a herbivore!) -- ferns, conifers, fruits, mosses, etc. One lizard could weigh up to 5,000 kilogrammes!
A Stegosaurus had a heavily rounded back, short forelimbs, head held low to the ground and a stiffened tail held high in the air. It has been speculated that the spikes were used during fighting, while the plates were used to defend itself. Comparatively, the dinosaur had a relatively low-brain-to- body-mass ratio. It was thought that the animal was not very smart. In fact, because of the stumpy legs, a Stegosaurus cannot walk very fast -- only up to about 6 to 7 kilometres per hour.

I have intentions for these three "creatures", two of which will be bookmarks, and one will be a ... (perhaps a keyring, a pendant, a zipper pull, and the list goes on).

The best thing about these tatted gigantic lizards: they don't bite! Not at all!

Have a good day!

Busy Busy Bee

Tatted a lovely tiny bee... It's not the only thing I've tatted over the last couple of weeks, but I'd left my camera at mum's so I couldn't photograph them. Will share these with you as I get pictures.

Martha Ess's original block tatting critter!

It's Mother's Day today. I wish all mothers A Happy and Blessed Mother's Day!

A Dolphin

Oh boy, time just zooms by me and my head's spinning with all the going-ons. Just didn't find the chance and time to post after the last one. So here's a quick post that's way overdued. Yes, another critter...

Multi-tasker

As I was writing this post, it dawned on me that this creature kinda describes me! I have to multi-task ever so often at work and even at home. I'm sure many of us have felt or feel the same way in this fast-paced era where efficiency is expected and taken for granted.

Tatted in Flora #20
But for now, I know I'm enjoying my tatting. :D

Splish Splash

A happy whale swims up to say "Hi! Hope everyone's having a whale of a time tatting!"

Tatted in Flora #20
Oh, the weekend's coming up again. Woohoo!

15 March 2012

Two Birds

decided to take a walk. What a pair?

04 March 2012

Small Flyer

This hummingbird is one of the smallest critter in my collection. It is tatted in DMC#70 thread. I love it. Another of Martha's critters.

03 March 2012

Rhino Baby

had to get in line too. Watch him go.

Isn't he handsome?

02 March 2012

Baa... Baa... Baa...

The woolly ones are out for a walk. Shout if you spot the BIG BAD WOLF!

01 March 2012

A Runaway Goose

Now what shall I tat next? Stay tuned if you're curious...

Send An Owl

...as they say in Harry Potter. I got mine finished by lunch today waiting to be posted here.

Another delightful critter by Martha Ess.

Hope you are having a great mid week.

A Green Critter!

Here's one that I'm very satisfied with -- A grasshopper!

Another wonderful critter by Martha Ess in More Critters on the Block.

A Dachshund and A Goat

This is Martha's picture of a Dachshund in More Critters on the Block.
And my tatted Dachshund.

Hmmm... now I'm puzzled as to why the orientation is different. ROFLOL

Next I have Jane Eborall's goat (called OG!). The pattern is here.

I asked Jane if I'll get a prize for sending the #100th goat.

More Crocs

Just happen to feel like tatting more crocodiles (or alligators).

Pattern by Martha Ess in More Critters on the Block
The one on the bottom left was an experimental piece from thread equivalent to #50, "confiscated" from DH's old military stash. He'd wanted to discard the thread and I saved it!

The two larger ones are tatted from Lisbeth Medium Leaf Green #40 I'd just bought. These crocs are nice and easy to tat up.

A Hedgehog and A Croc

Well, almost.
I tatted a hedgehog yesterday and I totally adore it.

What happened today? The croc was close to finishing and the shuttle thread gave way! SOB... Will have to re-tat this tomorrow.

Both patterns are designed by Martha Ess, in New Critters on the Block and More Critters on the Block which arrived two days ago. I love the critters in these books!

Handfuls This Week

I've been working on quite a few things this week. Been keeping awake almost every night to finish the items. You see, I simply can't rest until I have completed what I have in my hands. Is that good or bad?
First up... this heart motif by Martha Ess – Two Hearts as One. It's gorgeous. I would love to tat the one with the 2 hearts instead of just one of them, but I got stuck with the intertwinning of the rings part from R2.

Next, I tatted Lyn Morton's Romance Pendant again. This time it's with marine blue 4-mm Swaroski cystals with Flora #20. Maybe the choice of crystals wasn't quite right. They feel too large and heavy on this motif. What do you think? My first attempt is here

I've also worked on beading a few cabochons. Finished one pendant this morning at four. It's for a personal exchange with a dear friend. I think she'll like it. It's my own pattern.

Sorry about the colours. They really didn't turn out right. The actual piece is way more gorgeous. Another piece is being done. I plan to complete it end of the day.

Have a great weekend. XOXO

Chocolates

... so how many of you folks got 'fooled' by the title of this post? I am talking about the chocolate box to be exact. I saw a chocolate box contest posted on Ambitatterous here over a week ago and thought "Oh, how interesting?" I mean who can resist chocolates, or boxes?

The first thing that came to mind was obviously "Chocolates" and so I tatted the letters from The Complete Book of Tatting by Rebecca Jones'. Then came the flowers as they went with the alphabets.

Chocolate box (front)
And I got carried away. I tatted a honey pot and a chestnut (my own pattern) next. Then I saw Martha Ess' pumpkin teapot which I tatted a couple of days before. The pattern is here. All these took up positions on the back of the box.

Chocolate box (back)

Now I know you must be eyeing those truffles... Yes, they are actually pincushions I made for my teddy bear toolbox. Can they pass off as truffles?

Truffles
Finally, here's a glimpse of the box I picked up.

Just the box
I had loads of fun doing this. Thanks, IsDihara, for this contest idea.
