Year of the Ox

The Year of the Ox has arrived! Financial analysts around the world are busy predicting the year ahead─is it gonna be bull's run or a 'hardworking' year? No one knows...

Been busy springcleaning and putting up some CNY decor. Here's a glimpse of my living room niche. Flowers represent spring─'hwa kai fu gui' (when the flowers bloom, prosperity and good luck follows).

And the basket of mandarin oranges that's supposed to represent a basket of 'gold' (pronounced 'kum' in cantonese). When people go visiting during CNY, oranges are exchanged and the wish of prosperity and wealth is given to the other person receiving the oranges. Of course, good wishes such as 'shen ti jian kang' (wish you health) and 'bu bu gao sheng' (may you get promotions) are other common terms.

OK, I was distracted... :p My new shuttles have arrived! Got my first HDT too. (Hee hee...) This is the ceramic shuttle from Sherry, and 'Marina'.

Jan's shuttles have also arrived.

Ain't they beautiful?!

Blessed wishes to all my friends. 'Gong xi fa cai' (congratulations on gaining wealth).

  1. Hmmmm, I happen to be an Ox so I wonder if that means my luck will turn around??

Glad you got the shuttle (o:

  2. I hope you enjoy your new shuttles! Please let us know if you hear a musical tone when you tat with your ceramic shuttle from Sherry. I have several of her shuttles, and the little musical sound makes me smile when I tat!

  3. New Year, fresh new start and good hopes, Sherry.

I'm really excited about trying out the shuttle. And using the HDT. Looking out for a nice pattern for it... Will let you know Diane. Thanks for the heads up. :)

  4. Happy New Year to you, Valerie! Your shuttle and HDT from Sherry are both beautiful! I love my Jan Stawasz shuttles. They hold a LOT of thread and I mean A LOT! Enjoy your goodies!

  5. thanks, tattingchic. i'd love to thread jan's shuttle with beads. i think it does hold a fair bit of thread. :)

  6. Did you get Jan's shuttles directly from him ?

  7. no, ellen. i got them through karen glass. she has a shop on etsy in the name "Threadsong". i saw she still has a couple of jan's shuttles on esty. be quick if you want to purchase. i hear that jan's not going to produce anymore.

  8. Hello Valerie! Thanks for coming to visit my blog! I really appreciate your sweet comment and questions! The painting is entitled "Reverie". The inspiration came from myself getting lost in day dreams every now and then. No matter what I may come across or may be doing, a girl like me loves to dream.

    Lisa :)
